Obesity Vs. Malnutrition

Obese childrenThere is a short but interesting article in today’s British press about obesity striking not just the U.S. but the rest of the world as well.  In fact, the article goes on to say that “There are more dangerously obese people in the world (over 1 billion) than there are people starving (800,000,000).”  This article backs that up with a reference to the World Health Organization’s web site, containing a plethora of reports and statistics.

In the midst of greed, politics, war and indifference the distribution of food is a real problem for those people lacking it, and barely on the radars of those getting fat.  [This should be yet another Pro-Life movement issue (see previous blog), since about 6 million children die from malnutrition every year.  Where are the Pro-lifers on this?]

Becoming fat, dumb and indifferent is no way to remain a world leader, and it appears that the rest of the world is learning some really bad habits from us.

Great post. It’s another way of looking at the issue. It is true that people are starving around the world, yet in certain countries, others are managed to get overweight up to a dangerous level.

Ayurveda the ancient Medical system of the world upholds the theory of food intake as “hita bhuk(eat congenial food, Mita bhuk-Eat with limit, rutu bhuk-eat according to season, age ”
Its unfortunate that people are not guided properly to eat judiciously. Both under-nutrition and over nutrition has become the burning problem of the present. a better lifestyle is the only answer to this. It is the responsibility of every individual to be actively participating in following, educating, and preventing these two problems.

I’m disgusted by both. I’m disgusted by the accompanying image and all it represents. And I am disgusted by countries that haven’t figured out how to feed themselves yet. I am both repulsed by gluttony in any form and by “nations” that amount to little more than giant human-zoos that the rest of the world has to feed, clothe and shelter.
