When my college roommate and I finished fixing up the hovel in which we lived just off campus, he painted the words “Baltic Ave.” – in reference to the cheapest property on a Monopoly board – on a small block of wood and we nailed it to the side of our apartment building facing the alley. We only lived there for two years, but the sign lasted about ten before it eventually rotted and fell off. That all happened over a generation ago.
Google that address today on Google Maps and one will discover that the previously unnamed alley is now named “Baltic Ave.” I would never have expected it, but this appears to be my roommate’s and my lasting legacy to the history of Troy, NY. I hope they appreciate it.
